Mila White Boucle Dining Chairs: Size Guide and Table Pairings

By Dining1004 min read

Two Mila dining chairs in white boucle with black metal legs, one seen from behind showing two black uprights, at a long wooden dining table

The Mila is an armless dining chair upholstered in white boucle, with a curved backrest, a padded seat and black metal legs. From behind, two black uprights run up into the back, which gives the chair a crisp, graphic outline. It is sold as a set of two and there is one finish, so the decision is mostly about whether it fits your table and your room.

Size and fit

At 50cm wide, the Mila sits comfortably inside the 60cm of table edge we suggest allowing per person. The seat runs the full width of the chair, so you get a generous seat without the frame adding extra bulk at the sides.

The seat height is 48.25cm. Our dining tables are all 75cm tall, which puts the gap between seat and tabletop inside the 25cm to 30cm range that tends to feel right for eating. If you are matching the Mila to a table from elsewhere, our guide to dining chair seat height and table height shows how to check it with a tape measure.

The Mila is 54.5cm deep, a little deeper than some of our slimmer chairs, so plan your walkway with that in mind. Around 90cm behind a seated diner is a comfortable allowance where people need to pass. Our dining table size for your room article covers this properly. With no arms, the chairs tuck under the table edge between meals.

The seat uses a high-resilience foam cushion, and anti-slip floor protectors are fitted to the legs.

Which of our tables suit the Mila

The Mila's black legs make it an easy match for any of our tables with a black base or top.

Pimlico 80cm square. The black Pimlico with its black wood-effect top and black metal frame gives a strong black and white look with the Mila, well suited to a modern kitchen. The Pimlico seats four, one to each 80cm side, and the Mila's 50cm width fits each side easily. For something warmer, the oak-effect and walnut-effect versions keep the black base but soften the top. See our Pimlico guide and small dining room ideas.

Aaronsburg 120cm round. The Aaronsburg in black marble effect seats four and has a black top with white veining, which picks up both colours in the Mila. It is our choice if you want a dining corner that looks finished with very little else in the room. The rustic brown Aaronsburg works too, giving warmer contrast. More in our Aaronsburg guide.

Dakota 140cm. The Dakota is 140cm long and 77cm deep, with a warm wood-effect top on a black X-frame iron base. Two Milas fit along each long side within the 60cm guide. The warm top stops an all-white set of chairs from feeling cold, and the black base links back to the chair legs. Our Dakota planning article explains how much room it needs.

Pairing the Mila with other chairs

If you like white boucle but want a wraparound back, the Daniel in white boucle is the natural alternative to compare. It has a curved, enveloping back on a black powder-coated cantilever frame with crossed legs. Both chairs share the fabric colour and a black frame, so you could put Daniels at the ends of a Dakota and Milas along the sides. Our Daniel guide has its sizes, and our piece on mixing dining chairs around one table explains how to keep a mixed set looking deliberate.

The Mila also sits well with other black-legged chairs, such as the Sienna or the Marlow, if you want a head chair in a stronger colour or finish. When mixing, keep one element constant, here the black leg, and let the upholstery change.

Living with white boucle

Boucle is a looped, textured fabric. It is soft to sit on and adds texture to a plain room, but white shows food and drink sooner than a darker colour. The care guidance for the Mila is:

  • Vacuum the boucle regularly with a soft brush attachment.
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub, which can push the mark into the loops.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
  • Wipe the metal frame with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Check and tighten the fixings from time to time.

The legs are black powder-coated metal with a rust-resistant plated finish. For a longer comparison of how different seat fabrics cope with family life, see our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes.
