Daniel Curved Back Dining Chair: Size Guide and Table Pairings
By Dining1004 min read

The Daniel is a dining chair with a curved, horseshoe-shaped back that wraps around you, a padded seat with raised sides and a black powder-coated metal frame with crossed cantilever-style legs. It comes in brown faux leather, grey faux leather and white bouclé. It feels more like a small armchair than a standard side chair, which is exactly why it needs a little planning.
Size at a glance

The white bouclé listing gives slightly different overall width and depth figures from the brown and grey, so if you are fitting chairs into a tight space, check the measurements on the colour you choose.
Seat height and our tables
All three of our dining tables are 75cm high. As a general guide, a gap of roughly 25cm to 30cm between seat and tabletop is comfortable, and the Daniel's 50cm seat sits right at the snug end of that. For most adults it feels upright and supportive. If you are tall or like to cross your legs under the table, bear in mind the Dakota has a 4cm thick top, which takes a little from the space under the edge. Our guide to dining chair seat height explains how to test this at home.
How many fit around each table
At 52cm wide, the Daniel is one of our broader chairs, so here is how it works out.
- Aaronsburg, 120cm round: four fit comfortably. The pedestal base keeps the edge free, so the chairs can be spaced evenly.
- Dakota, 140cm by 77cm: two along each long side, within the usual guide of about 60cm of table edge per diner. We would treat it as a table for four with Daniel chairs, as their width makes end seats feel crowded.
- Pimlico, 80cm square: one per side, so four. It works, but the chairs are big relative to the table, so it suits a room where the chairs can stay out.
The tuck-in question
This is the one to think about before you buy. The Daniel is 75cm tall overall, the same height as our tables. The curved back wraps around to the sides at that height, so when you push the chair in, the back meets the edge of the tabletop rather than passing under it. The seat will go partly under; the back will not.
In practice, that means the chairs take up more floor when not in use than a slim side chair would. Allow about 90cm from the table edge to the wall behind each chair, which is the usual guide for pulling a chair out and walking past. If your room is tight, our small dining room ideas include chairs that tuck away more fully.
Which tables it pairs with
Dakota. The Daniel's black frame matches the Dakota's black X-shaped base, and its curves soften the table's straight lines. The grey or brown look coordinated; the white bouclé makes a lighter contrast. See our Dakota room planning guide.
Aaronsburg in black marble effect. Four white bouclé Daniels around the black marble-effect Aaronsburg make a crisp monochrome set. The round top and curved backs echo each other well.
Aaronsburg in rustic brown. The brown faux leather Daniel with the rustic brown Aaronsburg is a warmer, cosier pairing. More on that table in our Aaronsburg guide.
Because the Daniel is a statement shape, it also works as the pair of chairs at each end of a longer table, with simpler chairs along the sides. Our guide to mixing dining chairs covers that idea.
Choosing a colour
Brown faux leather. Warm and slightly retro. The upholstery is water repellent and pairs well with wood-effect tables and warm floors.
Grey faux leather. The quieter option, with a soft-touch finish. It suits grey, white and black rooms and pulls less attention than the brown.
White bouclé. A textured fabric rather than faux leather, which makes the chair look softer and more like lounge seating. The fabric has a water-repellent finish, but white shows marks more readily than the darker options, so think about who will be sitting at the table. Our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes compares bouclé with faux leather.
Living with it
Wipe the Daniel clean with a damp cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, particularly on the faux leather. Floor protectors are fitted to all four feet, and two of them are adjustable, so you can level the chair on an uneven floor. It is worth checking those adjustable feet now and then.
Assembly is straightforward: two leg sections attach to the seat base with the screws provided.

Frequently asked questions
What is the seat height of the Daniel dining chair?
The seat is 50cm from the floor. That suits a standard 75cm dining table, though it sits at the higher end of the usual range.
What colours does the Daniel chair come in?
Three: brown faux leather, grey faux leather and white bouclé. All three have a black powder-coated metal frame.
Will Daniel chairs tuck under a dining table?
Only partly. The chair is 75cm tall overall, the same height as our dining tables, so the curved back sits level with the tabletop rather than sliding beneath it.
How much weight does the Daniel chair hold?
Each chair has a maximum weight capacity of 120kg.
Is the Daniel chair easy to assemble?
Yes. You attach two leg sections to the seat base with the screws provided, and the parts are labelled with instructions included.
