Aaronsburg Round Dining Table for Four: Room Size and Chairs

By Dining1005 min read

Round brown wood-effect Aaronsburg dining table with a panelled top and angled pedestal base, standing on a round cream rug with a small vase of flowers

The Aaronsburg is our 120cm round dining table, built for four. The top sits on a sculptural pedestal base rather than four corner legs, so chairs can be pulled in anywhere around the edge. It comes in a warm rustic brown wood effect or a black marble effect, and both versions are the same size.

If you are trying to work out whether a round table will suit your room, this is the guide for you: how much floor it needs, how many it really seats and which of our chairs sit best around it.

How many does it seat?

Four, and four in comfort. A common rule of thumb is to allow roughly 60cm of table edge per diner, and a 120cm round top gives each of four people well over that. Elbows do not clash, plates and serving dishes have room, and because the table is round, nobody is stuck at a corner.

The pedestal base helps too. With no legs at the edge, you can shift chairs round to make space for a highchair or a fifth guest for pudding without anyone straddling a table leg. We would still describe it as a table for four, though. Five is a squeeze for a short while, not a nightly arrangement.

How much room does it need?

The usual guidance is to leave about 90cm between the table edge and the nearest wall or piece of furniture, so people can sit down and walk behind a seated diner. For a round table, measure that distance all the way round. Take the 120cm diameter and add about 90cm on each side, in both directions.

If one side of the table sits near a wall that nobody needs to walk along, you can reduce the gap on that side, though still leave enough for a chair to be pushed back. Round tables are forgiving in square rooms and kitchen corners because there are no corners on the table to catch hips as you pass. Which of our chairs fit around it?

At 75cm high, the Aaronsburg suits chairs with a seat height that leaves roughly 25cm to 30cm between the seat and the tabletop, which is the range most people find comfortable. Our guide to dining chair seat height explains why that gap matters. All of the chairs below fall within it.

Every one of these is narrow enough for four to sit around a 120cm round top with space between them. The narrower chairs, such as the Dany and Cheer, leave the most room to squeeze in an extra seat. The wider, more enclosing shapes, such as the Dusks and Daniel, feel more like a proper dining room set and suit a table that is always laid for four.

One thing to watch with a round table is how chairs tuck in. Because the edge curves away, chair backs splay slightly outwards when pushed in, so a chair with a compact back tucks in more neatly than a broad one.

Pairing ideas

Rustic brown with warm tones. The brown Aaronsburg's radiating grain looks at home next to walnut-finish legs and natural rattan. The Dany in cream fabric, the Elara with its rattan panel and the Roscoe with its brown faux leather seat and rattan back all pick up the table's warmth.

Black marble effect with contrast. The black top reads best against lighter upholstery and black metal. The white bouclé Mila or the white bouclé Daniel give a crisp monochrome look.

If you like the idea of two chair styles at one table, a round top is a good place to try it. Our piece on mixing dining chairs has some simple rules.

Choosing between the two finishes

The rustic brown Aaronsburg has a panelled wood-effect top with the grain arranged to radiate from the centre. It suits farmhouse kitchens and modern rooms alike, and its surface is described as water and scratch resistant.

The black marble-effect Aaronsburg has a deep black top with fine white veining and a segmented pattern, on an angular crossed-panel base. It is the more graphic of the two and works well in contemporary rooms with pale walls.

If your floor is a warm wood, the brown can blend in, while the black stands out. On a pale or grey floor the reverse is true.

Living with it

Both finishes are wipe-clean. Use a soft, damp cloth and dry the surface straight away. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals, and use mats and coasters under hot dishes and drinks. For the black version, lift the table rather than dragging it when you move it, to protect the base and your floor. It is worth checking and re-tightening the fixings now and then.

The table arrives for home assembly with instructions, and chairs are sold separately.

Frequently asked questions

How many people does the Aaronsburg round table seat?

It is designed to seat four. The 120cm round top gives each person a generous share of the edge, and the pedestal base means nobody has a table leg between their knees.

How tall is the Aaronsburg dining table?

It stands 75cm high, the same as our other dining tables, so any of our dining chairs with a seat height in the mid to high 40s will sit at a comfortable level against it.

What colours does the Aaronsburg come in?

Two: a rustic brown wood-effect finish with a panelled top, and a black marble effect with white veining. Both are 120cm across and 75cm high.

Is the Aaronsburg solid wood?

No. It is made from engineered wood. The brown version has a wood-effect finish and the black version has a marble-effect finish.

Does the Aaronsburg need assembling?

Yes, it arrives for home assembly with instructions included. The brown version needs no specialist tools.
