Dany Dining Chairs: Size Guide and the Tables They Suit

By Dining1005 min read

Two cream fabric Dany dining chairs with dark wooden legs in front of a wooden dining table with a glass carafe and a woven pendant light above

The Dany is an armless upholstered dining chair with a softly rounded back and a padded seat, set on solid wood legs in a walnut finish. The legs splay out slightly, which gives it a light, mid-century look without feeling flimsy. We sell it in three fabrics, cream, black and blue, and each colour comes as a set of 2.

It is a compact chair, so this guide is mostly about where it fits and what it sits well with.

Seat height against our tables

All three of our dining tables are 75cm tall. A 47cm seat under a 75cm top lands comfortably inside the 25cm to 30cm gap we usually suggest between seat and tabletop, which leaves room for your legs without you feeling low at the table. If you want the reasoning behind that range, our guide to dining chair seat height and table height goes through it.

Because the Dany has no arms, there is nothing to catch on a table apron. On the Pimlico, which lists 72cm of clearance under the frame, the seat slides in with room to spare.

How many fit around which table

At 46cm wide, the Dany is one of the narrower chairs in our range. As a general rule, allow roughly 60cm of table edge per diner, and a slim chair like this sits well within that.

  • Aaronsburg 120cm round: the Aaronsburg seats 4, and four Danys spaced around it leave plenty of elbow room. The pedestal base keeps the floor clear, so every chair can pull right in. There is more on the table in our Aaronsburg round table guide.
  • Dakota 140cm: two chairs along each long side is the comfortable everyday layout. The Dakota is 77cm deep, and a chair this narrow can also go at each end when you have guests. See the Dakota room planning guide.
  • Pimlico 80cm square: one chair per side, four in total. The Pimlico's base sits inward from the corners, so the Dany tucks in neatly on every side.

Behind the chairs, leave about 90cm if people need to walk past someone who is seated. Our guide to dining table size for your room covers walkways in more detail.

Which of our tables it pairs with

The walnut-finish legs are the thing to match. On the walnut-effect Pimlico, the wood tones sit close together and the black metal base keeps it from looking too uniform. The oak-effect Pimlico gives a lighter contrast if you prefer the legs to stand out.

The rustic brown Aaronsburg is a warm, wood-heavy pairing that suits the cream Dany particularly well. For a sharper look, the black marble-effect Aaronsburg works with the black Dany for a darker, monochrome scheme.

If you are fitting a kitchen corner or a small flat, the Dany and Pimlico together make a compact set for four. We have more layouts like that in small dining room ideas.

Choosing between cream, black and blue

All three colours share the same frame, legs and measurements, so this is purely about the room and how you use it.

  • Cream is the lightest option and makes a small room feel more open. It will show marks sooner than the darker fabrics, so it suits adult households or a dining room that is used a little less.
  • Black is the practical choice for everyday family meals. It hides wear well and gives a strong contrast against the walnut legs.
  • Blue adds colour without being loud. It sits well against warm wood and neutral walls.

If you are weighing up how different fabrics cope with children and spills, our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes is worth a read before you choose.

Living with it

Care is straightforward. Our care notes across the three colours come down to this:

  • vacuum the fabric regularly, ideally with a soft brush attachment
  • deal with spills straight away, blotting with a clean cloth rather than rubbing
  • wipe the wooden legs with a soft cloth, and dry them promptly if the cloth is damp
  • avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners on both fabric and wood

The chairs need some assembly. Tools, fixings and illustrated instructions are included, and our listing gives around 10-15 minutes per chair.

Our product notes also describe the Dany as suitable for living rooms, cafés and indoor commercial spaces, so it can double as a desk chair or occasional seat if your dining area is part of a bigger room.

Where to find the Dany

You can see each colour on its own page: Dany in cream, Dany in black and Dany in blue. If you want to compare it with other shapes first, browse all our dining chairs or match it to one of our dining tables. Delivery is free to mainland UK, most orders arrive in 3 to 5 working days, and you have 30 days to return anything that does not suit your room.
