Camden Dining Chairs: Size Guide and the Tables They Suit

By Dining1004 min read

A Camden dining chair in grey faux leather with vertical channel stitching on the back and slim black metal legs, on a plain pale background

The Camden is an armless dining chair upholstered in faux leather, with vertical channel stitching down the back and slim, tapered black metal legs. The back is shaped, narrowing in at the waist and flaring out at the shoulders, so it holds you a little without adding arms or bulk.

It comes in Grey and Cream, both sold as a set of 2. This guide looks at the practical questions: how it sits at a 75cm table, how many fit round each of our tables, and which of the two colours to go for.

Height and fit at the table

Our dining tables are all 75cm tall. The Camden's 47.5cm seat lands in the middle of the 25cm to 30cm gap between seat and tabletop that most people find comfortable, so it works for a wide range of heights without anyone feeling low or cramped. If you are matching it to a table you already own, measure to the underside of the tabletop or apron, not the top surface. Our seat height guide explains why that matters.

At 43.5cm wide, the Camden is a slim chair. That is its main advantage for room planning. It leaves more elbow room along each side than a broad upholstered chair, and with no arms it tucks in towards the table when you are not using it. In a narrow room, that can be the difference between a comfortable walkway and a tight squeeze. As a general guide, allow about 90cm behind each chair for people to pass, and see our guide to dining table size and clearances for the rest.

Which of our tables does it suit?

Dakota 140cm. This is our favourite pairing on paper. The Dakota's black X-frame legs match the Camden's black metal legs, and the warm wood-effect top softens the faux leather. At 140cm by 77cm, the Dakota takes two Camden chairs along each long side with generous room between them, going by roughly 60cm of table edge per person. More in our Dakota room planning guide.

Pimlico 80cm square. The Pimlico seats up to four, one per side, and its black metal frame ties in neatly with the Camden's legs. Because the Camden is slim, four of them round an 80cm square table still look tidy, which matters in a small kitchen. The Black Pimlico with Grey Camdens gives a crisp, modern look; the Oak or Walnut top with Cream Camdens is warmer. Read our Pimlico guide and small dining room ideas.

Aaronsburg 120cm round. The Aaronsburg seats up to four, so two sets of Camden chairs fit it well. The Black Marble effect version with Grey Camdens is a strong, graphic combination, while the Rustic Brown top suits the Cream. See our Aaronsburg guide.

Grey or Cream

Grey. A light grey faux leather with a soft-touch, vintage-effect finish that has a gentle mottled look. It is the more practical of the two for a family kitchen, because small marks blend into the finish. It suits grey, white and black schemes, and anywhere with a slightly industrial feel.

Cream. A pale cream faux leather with the same vintage-inspired finish. It brightens a darker room and looks particularly good against warm wood, whether that is a wood-effect tabletop or a timber floor. Being pale, it will show spills sooner, but faux leather is easier to wipe than a woven fabric.

Both colours share the same black metal legs, so you could even mix them, for example Cream on the long sides and Grey at the ends. Our guide to mixing dining chairs around one table covers how to make that look planned.

Living with it

Faux leather is one of the easier finishes to keep on top of, and it is covered alongside the other options in our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes.

  • Wipe the upholstery with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Blot spills straight away with a dry cloth, rather than letting them sit.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, which can damage the surface.
  • Keep the chairs away from direct heat, and out of long spells of direct sunlight to stop the colour fading.
  • Check and tighten the fixings from time to time.

Where to see them

You can see both colours on their product pages: Camden in Grey and Camden in Cream. For something in fabric with a wooden frame, compare the Cheer, or browse the full range in dining chairs.

Delivery is free to mainland UK and most orders arrive in 3 to 5 working days. You have 30 days to return them if they do not suit your room.
