Pimlico 80cm Square Dining Table: Will It Fit Your Kitchen?

By Dining1005 min read

A black square dining table on an angled black metal base with four cream upholstered chairs with walnut-toned wooden frames, set on a jute rug beneath a woven pendant light

The Pimlico is our smallest dining table: an 80cm square wood-effect top on a black metal frame. It is listed as seating four, and it is built for the rooms where a bigger table simply will not go, from a galley-style kitchen to a corner of an open-plan flat.

Instead of four legs at the corners, its angled base gathers towards the middle. That one detail shapes most of what follows, from how chairs tuck in to how easily it sits against a wall.

The 72cm figure is listed as apron clearance on the black version and as leg/frame height on the walnut-effect and oak-effect versions.

Will it fit your room?

The common guidance is to leave about 90cm between the table edge and the wall wherever someone needs to walk behind a seated diner. For the Pimlico that gives:

  • 80cm + 90cm + 90cm = 260cm in each direction

That is the space for all four sides in use with a full walkway round. Plenty of kitchens do not have it, and that is where the Pimlico earns its place. Push one side against a wall and you save a whole walkway while keeping three seats. Push it into a corner and you keep two, which suits a couple who eat together most nights.

Because the base sits in from the corners, there are no corner legs in the way when the table goes flush to a wall, and chairs come in cleanly on every open side. Our guide to dining table size for your room works through the same sums for our larger tables if you are still deciding.

Seat height and legroom

At 75cm tall, the Pimlico works with the usual dining chair seat height of around 45cm to 50cm, which leaves the 25cm to 30cm gap most people find comfortable. What your thighs actually meet is the underside of the frame at 72cm, so if you are choosing a taller chair, it is worth checking its seat height against that figure too.

Our seat height guide sets all 15 of our chair ranges against a 75cm table.

Which chairs suit it

Each side is 80cm, so one chair per side is the natural layout, with room to spare. In a small kitchen, narrower armless chairs keep the whole set compact and let every chair tuck fully under.

  • The Dany. At 46cm wide with a 47cm seat height, the Dany in cream sits well with any of the three tops, and its walnut-finish legs tie in with the walnut-effect Pimlico. It also comes in black and blue. See our Dany guide.
  • The Camden. Our narrowest chair at 43.5cm wide, with matt black powder-coated metal legs that echo the Pimlico frame. The grey lists a 47.5cm seat height. There is also a cream. More in our Camden guide.
  • The Cheer. A compact armless bentwood chair, 46cm wide with a 46cm seat height on the charcoal and olive listings. The olive looks warm against the oak-effect top, while the charcoal is quieter beside the black.
  • The Nora. A cane back in a walnut-finish frame, 47cm wide with a 45.5cm seat height. The Nora keeps a small room feeling open because you can see through the backrest.

Mixing two of these at one table works as long as the seat heights are close; our guide to mixing dining chairs explains how.

Choosing between black, walnut and oak

All three share the same size and the same black metal frame. Only the top changes.

  • Black. Black on black gives the most graphic, industrial look, and the top has a subtle grain texture. It suits a kitchen with dark handles or black taps, and makes pale chairs stand out.
  • Walnut effect. A deeper, warmer tone. It pairs naturally with walnut-finish chair legs such as the Dany, the Cheer and the Nora.
  • Oak effect. The lightest of the three. In a room with limited daylight, this is the one that keeps things bright, especially with cream or beige chairs.

Living with it

The care routine is simple. Wipe the top with a soft, damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals, and use mats and coasters to protect against heat and moisture. Every so often, check the frame fixings and tighten them if needed, which keeps the table steady.

A compact square table also makes a practical desk. If yours will double as a workspace, pick chairs you are happy to sit on for longer than a meal. For more ways to make a tight room work, see our small dining room ideas.

Where to find it

The Pimlico comes in black, walnut effect and oak effect, alongside the rest of our dining tables. Delivery is free to mainland UK, most orders arrive in 3 to 5 working days, and you have 30 days to return it if it does not suit your space.

Frequently asked questions

How many people does the Pimlico seat?

The Pimlico is listed as seating four, one on each side of its 80cm by 80cm top.

How tall is the Pimlico dining table?

It stands 75cm tall, with 72cm listed as the height beneath the top. That suits standard dining chairs with a seat height of around 45cm to 50cm.

How much room do I need for an 80cm square table?
