Nora Cane Back Dining Chairs: Size Guide and Table Pairings
By Dining1005 min read

The Nora is a slim, armless dining chair with a woven rattan cane panel in the backrest, a walnut-finish wooden frame and a cream PU-upholstered seat. Black metal struts support the back, which you notice mostly when the chair is seen from behind. It is sold as a set of two and comes in one finish.
Because there is only one version, the questions worth answering are about fit: will it sit comfortably at your table, how many can you get round it, and what does it look good next to.

Size and fit
The Nora is a compact chair. At 47cm wide it takes up well under the 60cm of table edge we usually suggest allowing per diner, which gives elbows some room and makes it one of the easier chairs in our range to fit into a smaller kitchen.
Its seat height is 45.5cm. All three of our dining tables stand 75cm tall, so the gap between seat and tabletop falls inside the 25cm to 30cm range that most people find comfortable. Our guide to dining chair seat height and table height explains why that gap matters more than the chair's overall height.
At 79cm tall, the back stays low enough that the chairs do not block sightlines across an open-plan room. With no arms, the Nora slides right under the table edge, which helps when floor space is tight. For walkways, leave about 90cm behind the chairs where people need to pass. Our article on dining table size for your room goes into clearances.
The listed weight capacity is 113kg per chair.
How many fit round our tables
Aaronsburg 120cm round. The Aaronsburg in rustic brown seats four, and four Noras sit round it with space between them. The warm wood-effect top and the walnut-finish chair frame are a natural match, and the pedestal base means no table legs get in the way of the chair legs. See our Aaronsburg guide.
Pimlico 80cm square. The Pimlico seats four, one per side, and the Nora's 47cm width sits easily on each 80cm side. The walnut-effect Pimlico is our pick here, because its black metal base echoes the Nora's black struts and the top matches the frame. The oak-effect and black versions also work. Read more in our Pimlico guide.
Dakota 140cm. The Dakota is 140cm long and 77cm deep. Two Noras sit comfortably along each long side, with room left over, and the black X-frame base ties in with the metal struts on the chair back. It is a good match if you want a slightly industrial look softened by the cane. Our Dakota planning article has more on room sizes.
Pairing the Nora with other chairs
Cane is a texture that mixes well, which makes the Nora a useful chair to build around.
The closest partner in our range is the Elara. It shares the Nora's 44cm seat width and its 40cm by 37cm backrest, has a rattan panel in the back and a white seat, and carries the same 113kg listed capacity. The difference is in the legs: the Elara stands on black powder-coated metal rather than wood. A pair of each around a Dakota gives you a mixed set that still looks planned. Our Elara guide has its full sizes.
If you like cane but want it on a very different kind of frame, the Vienna pairs a cane back with a chrome cantilever frame. Mixing the two works best if you keep them on different sides of the table rather than alternating. Our guide to mixing dining chairs around one table explains how to do that without it looking accidental.
Outside the dining room, the Nora's slim footprint makes it a reasonable desk chair or an extra seat in a living room. If your dining room also has a console table, our article on using a console table in the dining room covers how to keep enough space around both.
Living with the Nora
Cane and PU are both fairly easy to look after, which suits a chair that gets daily use. The care guidance on the product page is:
- Wipe the chair clean with a soft, damp cloth.
- Dust the rattan cane regularly with a soft brush, so crumbs and dust do not settle into the weave.
- Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
- Fit felt pads to the feet if needed to protect your floor.
The cream seat is the part that shows marks first. A PU surface is wipeable, so a quick clean after meals keeps it looking fresh. For a wider look at how seat materials hold up with children at the table, read our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes.
The chairs arrive flat-packed, with illustrated instructions included.
