Henley Dining Chairs: Size Guide, Colours and Tables They Suit
By Dining1005 min read

The Henley is an upholstered dining chair with a rounded, pill-shaped back, a padded seat and a walnut-toned wooden frame on tapered legs. A curved wooden rail runs around the back of the backrest, which is what gives it that Scandi, mid-century outline from behind. It comes in two fabrics, Camel and Beige, and is sold as a set of two.
This guide covers the practical questions: how much room it takes up, which of our tables it suits, and which colour to choose.

Size and fit
At 56.5cm across, the Henley is a roomy chair. That is good news for comfort, because the padded seat and wraparound back give you somewhere to settle for a long meal. It also means you should measure before you buy, because wide chairs are what usually decide how many people a table really seats.
A useful rule of thumb is to allow roughly 60cm of table edge for each person. The Henley fits inside that allowance, but only just, so we would not try to squeeze an extra chair onto a side that is already full.
Behind the chairs, leave about 90cm if people need to walk past someone who is seated. At a push you can manage with less against a wall that nobody walks along, but the Henley's 52.5cm depth plus the distance you sit back from the table adds up quickly in a narrow kitchen. Our guide to dining table size for your room walks through the clearances in more detail.
The Henley has no arms, so it tucks right up to the table edge when not in use and you can slide in from either side. All three of our dining tables are 75cm tall, which is the standard dining height. If seat height is your main worry, our article on dining chair seat height and table height explains the comfortable gap between seat and tabletop and how to check it at home.
Which of our tables suit the Henley
Aaronsburg 120cm round. The Aaronsburg in rustic brown is listed to seat four, and a round table suits a curved chair like the Henley well. There are no corners to catch your knees on, and the pedestal base leaves the floor clear so all four chairs can pull in. The wood-effect top picks up the walnut tones of the Henley frame. If you prefer contrast, the Aaronsburg in black marble effect looks sharp against the lighter Beige fabric. More in our Aaronsburg round table guide.
Dakota 140cm. The Dakota is 140cm long and 77cm deep, with a warm wood-effect top on a black X-frame base. Along each long side, two Henleys sit comfortably within the 60cm guide, and the central base keeps the corners free of legs. This is the pairing we would choose for a family kitchen. See our Dakota room planning article.
Pimlico 80cm square. The Pimlico is listed to seat four, one per side. Each side is 80cm, so a Henley at 56.5cm fits with some table edge to spare. It is a compact set-up for a flat or a kitchen corner. The oak-effect Pimlico keeps things light with the Beige Henley, while the walnut-effect Pimlico matches the chair frame closely. There is also a black Pimlico. Our Pimlico guide and our small dining room ideas cover tight rooms.
If you would like to mix the Henley with a different chair at the head of the table, our piece on mixing dining chairs around one table explains how to keep it looking deliberate. The Dany and Cheer both share the walnut-toned wood look.
Camel or Beige
The two Henleys share a frame, a shape and the same dimensions, so this is purely a question of fabric and room.
Camel is the darker, warmer option. In our photographs it sits between sand and taupe, and it holds its own against wooden floors and mid-tone tables such as the rustic brown Aaronsburg or the Dakota. It is the more forgiving choice if the chairs will see everyday family use, because light marks show less.
Beige is a lighter woven fabric with a visible texture. It brightens a darker room and looks crisp next to a black table top. Pale fabric will show spills sooner, so it suits a household that is happy to blot and vacuum as it goes. Our guide to dining chair fabrics for family homes compares how different upholstery copes with daily life.
If you are torn, look at your floor rather than your walls. A chair that is too close in tone to the floor can disappear, while a step lighter or darker gives the set some shape.
Living with the Henley
The care guidance on the product pages is straightforward:
- Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing.
- Vacuum the upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment.
- Wipe the wooden frame with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners on both fabric and wood.
- Keep the chairs away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight to help prevent fading.
That last point matters more than people expect. If your dining table sits by a south-facing window, a blind during the brightest hours will keep the fabric colour even across the set.
Ordering the Henley
You can see both fabrics on their product pages: Henley in Camel and Henley in Beige. Each order is a set of two, so order two sets for a table of four. We deliver free to mainland UK, most orders arrive in 3 to 5 working days, and you have 30 days to return anything that does not suit your room. Frequently asked questions
How big is the Henley dining chair?
Each Henley chair is 81cm high, 56.5cm wide and 52.5cm deep. It is one of the wider chairs in our range, so it is worth checking the length of your table sides before ordering.
Are Henley dining chairs sold individually?
No. Both the Camel and the Beige Henley are sold as a set of two chairs.
What is the difference between Henley Camel and Henley Beige?
The shape, frame and dimensions are the same. Camel is the deeper, warmer fabric of the two, while Beige is a lighter woven fabric that reads almost oatmeal in daylight.
Will four Henley chairs fit around a small table?
Yes. Our Aaronsburg round table and Pimlico square table are both listed to seat four, and one Henley on each side of the 80cm Pimlico sits within the table edge.
How do I clean Henley dining chairs?
Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth, vacuum the fabric with a soft brush attachment, and wipe the wooden frame with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
